Day 2 in Barbados
Right after breakfast we had a great presentation during our morning devotional time and then we jumped right into service and ministry. Our schedules have been juggled so that we are paired up with different team members of our team each day. Below are a few comments from our team members:
Dave, Larry, and Chuck worked arduously in the engine room. Apparently it was very hot and dirty with a lot of fumes. They were aching and very tired when the time for supper rolled around. In our debriefing each one of them expressed how much they liked doing something helpful and productive. They each also remarked about how appreciative the engine room personnel are of vision team work. Below is a photo of these guys with the First Engineer on the ship, Paul Guiness (UK).
Larry was able to share his Beattitudes study with three crew members during the day and encourage others to read “Secrets of the Secret Place”.
Joyce was encouraged at the very beginning of the day by connecting in a significant way with a visitor to the ship who was born in Israel and raised in Columbia. Joyce was able to counsel and minister to her from experiences that God had helped her deal with in her past.
Sue remarked how encouraged she was with her interaction with the public that was visiting the ship.
Joel shared how much he has enjoyed meeting the great crew members, their enthusiasm, and their commitment to the Lord. We all agreed that this has been an ongoing highlight of our time here. So far, we have counted 26 nationalities represented by our conversations with the crew. We’ll probably publish a list later in the week.
Lee had a great time with a team from the crew that went to a park in town and engaged in street ministry (see photos).
All in all, we’ve had a great day and look forward to church, ministry, and service tomorrow.

Quick report from Barbados
Our first day has been great! The flights were super and thankfully less crowded on the longer flight from Miami to Barbados.
The whole operation on the Logos Hope is amazing, borderline overwhelming. We arrived and had an “interesting” ride from the airport (during rush hour) to the ship. Had lots of help from crew in getting our suitcases on board. Got somewhat settled then met for an orientation meeting.
We have been assigned three Vision Team coordinators and they are great! Dave, Larry, Chuck, and Sue have seen a lot of their friends from OM. The whole operation here is extremely professional and very well organized.
After our orientation meeting, we had a short break and ate supper. The food and fellowship was super. After some visiting, we were given a tour of the whole ship... unbelievable! We went from stem to stern, “on top” (Deck 9), and from the “fun deck” for the children of the families serving on board and their school rooms to the bridge!
To wrap up the day, we had time to “debrief”, share, and pray. We praise God for a great day and are excited about what He has in store for us tomorrow. The rest of the team has turned in as we have a busy day planned tomorrow. I’ll sign off for now but look forward to giving you another report tomorrow.
p.s. I broke a tooth at supper tonight but don’t have any pain. I’ll just need to be careful for the week and stick to soft foods so no more of the tooth or filling is damaged.

Daily prayer list for ministry in Barbados
Here's how you can pray:
1. Mornings will be receiving evangelism training and working some practical job onboard the ship. A couple of women are sewing needed items for the ship, 3 of us men are working in the engine room (dirty, hot, noisy).
We pray our contributions will free the staff to do important jobs and contribute to the over all presentation and effectiveness of the ship ministry. Pray for safety in our work.
2. Afternoons we'll be ministering on Deck 4 "The Life Experience Deck" -- visitors will see a history of the ship ministry, purchase educational and Christian books on the largest floating book store on the planet, and drink coffee with crew members (and us).
Pray we have profitable and Spirit led conversations with guests who come to purchase books and tour the ship. Many will not know the Lord, others will be backslidden and still others will have something to impart to us.
3. Evenings and some afternoons will be ministering off the ship -- either immediately on shore to the crowds waiting to get on the ship or in other ministries that are available to churches, schools, prisons, etc. We don't know what those are and some opportunities will be last minute.
Pray we effectively share the story of Christ, our testimonies, and can bring people the next step in their relationship with God.
Pray for strength and perseverance in the midst of the heat and humidity.
4. Sunday -- We will almost certainly have a church meeting to be part of.
Pray we effectively communicate and give glory to God. All of us are praying for opportunities to get into homes of local people, Christian and non Christian.
5. Meal times -- All meals will be eaten with the crew members in the dining room.
Pray for these times to be encouragement and challenge to ship crew. I have some appointments already to meet with people regarding future direction, discouragement and family and personal matters needing the Lord's guidance.
6. Post Barbados -- what next? What does God want to do with this trip in our lives?
Pray for our hearts to understand and act upon what God wants.

Future plans?
Dad's already talking about his next trip but hasn't decided where he'll go or when. So far he's thinking about the Mediterranean, Africa, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, or Alaska. If you'd like more information, are interested in going, or want to have input on the location of the next trip, let him know via comments on this post!
Welcome!
Welcome to Short-Term Mission Connection! The information you will be reading in the future is from Dad, but I (Abby) will be posting on and managing the blog itself. God bless!
